PARTIAL CAROTID LIGATION (PCL)
PCL Study Protocol
ApoE Knockout mice were subjected to PCL or SHAM surgeries, and next day exposed to high fat diet or regular chow for 3 weeks. Echocardiography was performed weekly. Oil Red O staining (ORO) was performed on the cross-sections of carotid arteries.

Carotid Arterial Remodeling
Left common carotid artery images (red arrows) were obtained using sonography. Luminal narrowing and irregularity was observed in PCL mice.

Carotid Arterial Flow Reducing
Blood flow (red) was measured by Power Doppler in the carotid artery. A severe decrease was detected in PCL mice.

Carotid Atherosclerosis
Lipid accumulation was detected in the sections of common carotid arteries (left) by Oil Red O staining. Massive lipid accumulation was observed in the intimal area of the vessels from PCL mice.
